In Pallisa District, Uganda, early childhood education was overlooked, particularly in government schools. The lack of structured ECD centers hindered educational foundation for children aged 3–6, leaving them unprepared for primary school. Many children stayed home or were forced into overcrowded primary school classrooms ill-equipped for their developmental needs. Recognizing this gap, Good Neighbors International Uganda (GNIUG) in collaboration with local government changed this narrative by constructing and opening the district’s first government ECD center at Obutet Primary School.
This ECD now supports 80 children aged 3–6 years ensuring they have access to quality early learning, child-friendly classrooms, engaging learning materials, a safe playground, and trained teachers. The facility offers a nurturing environment for holistic development, ensuring children are better prepared for primary education.
The Obutet ECD center has transformed children’s lives and also united the community. Parents actively participate in maintaining the facility, and teachers are trained to deliver quality early education.
